IBM 300GL

Today, while cleaning out the junk on my hard drive, I found these pictures of my very first computer - The IBM 300GL.

The IBM 300GL was a Pentium MMX machine and a complete pleasure to own. I still have it lying in a corner of my room and it will take at least an hour of tinkering to get it to even boot up…

That’s awesome. The first computer I ever owned was a Toshiba T-1200 laptop. Prior to that I had to use the ones at the library. Of course, while portability was nice, the T-1200 had only a small monochrome LCD screen, so shortly after I got it I built myself a desktop system out of spare parts from a friend’s old machine. After that, computers became an obsession.

Wow. That looks quite an oldie. 1MB RAM and a 9.5MGHZ. You beat me. I feel better now that i know, i did not have that bad a start… :P

Yeah, mine was the floppy-only version, too. No hard drive at all. I had to boot with a DOS 2.0 disk and then change disks to type a document in WordPerfect or dial my ISP with ProComm Plus. Ahhh, the Net was so much simpler then. Good times.
